Job summary

London Borough of Bexley is seeking a proactive Participation Mentor to support children in care and care leavers within the Participation team. You will mentor young people, help them participate in clubs, forums and education/training, and work with partners to understand their experiences.

The role requires delivering sessions, recording outcomes, and contributing to training and outreach across audiences. Evening and weekend work is required, with office-based work at least three days a week.

Qualifications

• Experience mentoring young people in school, college or local authority settings with insight into care leavers.
• Experience working with children in care and young people in care settings is essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide sessional practical support for learning and participation activities, including planning, recruitment, setup, supervision and risk assessment.
• Deliver direct work with children and young people to promote learning outcomes and independence, using a range of direct work tools and strategies.
• Record outcomes from sessions (minutes, debrief notes, attendance registers, child voice and photos) to inform reporting and sharing.
• Support training and outreach to diverse audiences and promote the 5 Good for Me priorities from the Bexley strategy.
