Job summary

Manchester City Council’s STEPs team delivers study programmes for young adults with learning disabilities. The post holder will work within a small team of Job Coaches to provide introductions to job skills and work placements, under a Work Placement Coordinator.

The role focuses on practical support to learners to progress toward independence. Applicants should be prepared for DBS checks and the local residency requirements.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills to relate to a range of people, including employers and young people with learning disabilities, to support work placements.
• Clear prioritisation of work and meeting demanding timescales.
• Ability to identify potential problems and establish the true position before acting.
• Ability to organise own activities to support a programme for young people to inspire and equip them into work and volunteering.
• Willingness to apply for an enhanced DBS check.

Responsibilities

• Provide a practical, day-to-day support to learners in line with agreed support plans.
• Help learners access work-related learning and complete work placements.
• Support learners to develop employability skills and gain workplace experience.
