Job summary

YMCA Fairthorne Group in Basingstoke is seeking a Youth Engagement Worker to develop and deliver programmes that help young people build confidence, skills and move toward independent, fulfilling lives. You’ll work one-to-one and in groups, building trusted relationships and supporting participants to achieve personal goals.

The role emphasises safeguarding, wellbeing and community engagement within a housing setting for 80+ young people aged 18–30, with a pro-active, solution-focused approach.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering programmes within a youth, adult or community-based setting.
• Experience supporting young people or adults with complex needs.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches.
• Understanding of challenges facing young people today.
• Experience supporting emotional wellbeing, trauma or substance misuse; willingness to develop these skills.
• Ability to respond positively to challenging or high-risk behaviours.
• Good IT skills and confidence using digital systems.
• Sound understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion; approachable and supportive.

Responsibilities

• Develop, promote and deliver engaging daily activities and programmes for young people.
• Support, mentor, coach and walk alongside young people to achieve personal goals.
• Undertake risk assessments and support planning.
• Build positive relationships with residents.
• Support activities involving the wider community and adjacent youth centre.
• Engage external partners and specialist agencies to deliver activities.
• Advocate for young people and help access services and opportunities.
• Assist with employment, education, training and volunteering opportunities.
• Maintain clear records and programme information.
• Contribute to safeguarding, health and wellbeing processes.
• Identify and respond to emerging risks and concerns.
