Job summary

YMCA Fairthorne Group Basingstoke is seeking a Youth Engagement Worker to develop and deliver engaging programmes for young people aged 18–30 in a housing setting near the city centre. You will mentor and walk alongside residents, supporting them toward education, employment, training and independent living.

The role emphasizes building trusted relationships, risk assessment, safeguarding, and working with external partners to provide holistic support and opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering programmes within a youth, adult or community-based setting.
• Experience supporting young people or adults with complex needs.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches.
• Understanding challenges facing young people today.
• Ability to respond positively to challenging behaviours.
• Good IT skills and confidence using digital systems.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Develop, promote and deliver engaging daily activities and programmes for young people.
• Mentor, coach and walk alongside young people toward personal goals.
• Undertake risk assessments and support planning.
• Build positive relationships with residents.
• Engage external partners to deliver support and activities.
• Support young people into employment, education, training and volunteering.
• Maintain clear records and contribute to safeguarding and wellbeing processes.
