Job summary

Wakefield Council is recruiting Youth Support Workers to help shape positive futures for young people aged 11 to 24 across Wakefield. You will engage young people through group work, one-to-one support, centre-based provision, and community activities.

You will develop resilience, confidence, and skills while working with schools, training providers, employers, and community partners to promote education and employment opportunities. The role emphasises safeguarding, inclusion, and participation.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working with children and young people in either a paid or voluntary capacity.
  • Good understanding of barriers some young people face when accessing services and support.
  • Commitment to completing a Level 3 Youth Work qualification within two years of starting the course and maintaining professional knowledge and skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a range of youth support activities and interventions through group work and one-to-one engagement.
  • Support the delivery of open-access youth provision alongside third-sector and community partners.
  • Contribute to the development of the local youth offer and community-based opportunities.
  • Deliver and support detached (street-based) youth work to engage young people in their own communities.
  • Promote positive outcomes relating to education, employment, training, health, and wellbeing.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with schools, colleges, training providers, employers, and partner agencies.
  • Support young people to access work placements, learning opportunities, and wider support services.
  • Advocate for children and young people, ensuring their views influence service delivery and development.
  • Promote the safety, wellbeing, and safeguarding of children and young people, with particular focus on those who are most vulnerable.
  • Work alongside Youth Engagement Workers and the wider team to deliver needs-led interventions and demonstrate positive impact.
  • Capture and use youth voice to shape services and improve outcomes.
