Job summary

The YOU Trust LTD in Weymouth is seeking a Night Worker to support vulnerable young people to develop independent living skills. You will work nights in a person-centred, outcome-focused approach to promote engagement with education, training and employment, while helping clients avoid eviction and homelessness.

We offer extensive training and a supportive team, with a focus on safeguarding, trauma-informed care, and collaborative working with partner agencies.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 Health & Social Care or equivalent.
  • Experience with safeguarding and trauma-informed care.
  • Knowledge of Ofsted framework.
  • Experience with support planning and risk management.
  • Understanding housing-related support & homelessness legislation.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding Children & Adults.
  • Ability to write reports and perform admin tasks.
  • Demonstrated passion for working with young people.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective overnight support to young people.
  • Maintain the security of the building overnight.
  • Support clients to sustain accommodation and move to independent living.
  • Ensure communal areas are kept clean and hygienic.
  • Operate within the PIE framework to promote positive changes.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies to support outcomes.

Night Worker - Young Lives

Location: Weymouth
Salary: £13,449.50pa plus £750 Night allowance ££26,899pa + £1,500 Night allowance FTE)
Permanent, Part Time 20 hours per week

The first suitable applicant will be appointed.


YOU is a registered charity that has been providing care, support and advice for over 30 years to vulnerable people, working across Hampshire, Dorset, West Sussex, Wiltshire, Somerset and the Isle of Wight to give them the tools and resources they need to live independent, secure and valued lives. We also maintain an in‑house pool of sessional workers, which we refer to as the ‘Premier Crew’.


Essential Requirements:

  • Working Knowledge of Ofsted framework

  • Health and social care qualification or equivalent to NVQ level 3 or equivalent work level experience

  • In depth knowledge of support planning and risk management

  • An understanding of housing related support and homelessness legislation for vulnerable young people

  • In depth knowledge of safeguarding Children and Adults

  • Experience of working with young people in a trauma informed care environment

  • Proficient in using computers to perform daily operational/administrative tasks and writing reports

  • Be passionate about working with young people


The Role:

The Night Support Worker plays a key role in supporting young people to develop independent living skills and achieve positive outcomes. The post holder works in a person‑centred, outcome‑focused manner to promote engagement with education, training, and employment, while helping young people to avoid eviction and repeat homelessness.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide effective and professional overnight support to young people, ensuring their safety and wellbeing at all times.

  • Maintain the security of the building throughout the night, responding appropriately to incidents and accessing the on‑call manager in emergencies.

  • Support young people to sustain accommodation and develop the skills needed to move on to lower‑intensity support or independent living at the earliest appropriate opportunity.

  • Ensure communal areas and office spaces are maintained to agreed standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

  • Work within the Psychological Informed Environments (PIE) framework to help clients make sustained, positive changes to their lives.

  • Collaborative Working


The role involves close partnership working with a wide range of internal and external agencies, including:



  1. Community Mental Health Teams

  2. Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)

  3. Local Housing Authorities

  4. Education and training providers

  5. Children’s and Adult Social Care

  6. Probation Services and Youth Offending Teams

  7. Voluntary sector organisations

  8. Emergency services
