Job description

Job Description:

Looking for a role where your presence can make all the difference?

For many young people in residential care, the night can be the most difficult part of the day. Feelings of anxiety, uncertainty, and past trauma don't disappear when the lights go out. That's why having calm, reliable, and compassionate adults on hand throughout the night is so important. This opportunity offers the chance to join a growing therapeutic service supporting children and young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs. Working within small residential homes supporting up to two young people, you'll play a vital role in maintaining a safe, stable, and nurturing environment throughout the night.

If you're someone who remains calm under pressure, values consistency, and wants to make a meaningful difference, we'd love to hear from you.

Why Apply?

  • Earn a high market salary of £31,200 - £32,400 per year.

  • Working in homes supporting up to two young people allows you to provide individualised support and contribute to positive outcomes through consistency and relationship-building.

  • Therapeutic Approach. Join a service that focuses on understanding young people's experiences and supporting them through relationship-led, therapeutic care.

  • Access ongoing training, professional development, and opportunities to progress within a growing organisation.

  • Join a Forward-Thinking Service. Become part of a team committed to continually improving the care and support provided to young people.

The Role

As a Waking Night Support Worker, you'll be responsible for maintaining the safety, wellbeing, and security of young people throughout the night. You'll provide reassurance and support when required, respond appropriately to incidents or emergencies, complete relevant documentation, and help ensure a smooth handover to the day team. This role requires a vigilant, proactive approach and the ability to remain calm, professional, and supportive in challenging situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of young people throughout the night.

  • Carry out regular welfare and security checks in line with care plans and risk assessments.

  • Provide emotional support and reassurance when required.

  • Respond appropriately to incidents, safeguarding concerns, or emergencies.

  • Maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming home environment.

  • Complete accurate records, reports, and handovers.

  • Work closely with colleagues to provide consistent care and support.

About You

We're looking for a compassionate, resilient individual who understands the importance of providing stability and reassurance to young people.

You will need:

  • Experience as a Support Worker, Care Assistant/Worker, Teaching Assistant or other relevant role supporting children or adults with complex needs in residential care, supported living, community, or education settings.

  • To be able to work 10pm-8am nights on a rota basis to include all days of the week and public holidays.

  • Ability to stay awake and vigilant throughout the night.

  • The ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare.

  • Good communication and record-keeping skills.

  • Confidence working independently while remaining part of a wider team.

  • Motivation to learn, develop, and progress within residential childcare.

  • A full UK driving licence.

What You'll Receive

  • Ongoing training and professional development.

  • Opportunities to develop specialist therapeutic childcare skills.

  • Supportive leadership and management.

  • Clear opportunities for future progression.

  • The chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people.
