Job summary

Long Term Futures Ltd in London is seeking an experienced Year 5 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with autism and trauma-related needs in a Year 5 class. The role focuses on targeted 1:1 support, emotional regulation, and consistent behavioural guidance.

The ideal candidate is calm, resilient, and able to build trust while maintaining clear boundaries. This full-time, long-term position offers ongoing professional development and a collaborative SEND team.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting pupils with autism and challenging behaviour.
• Trauma-informed approach and experience with emotionally challenging cases preferred.
• Calm, patient and consistent approach to pupil support.
• Ability to build trust while maintaining boundaries and expectations.

Responsibilities

• Providing targeted 1:1 support within a Year 5 classroom.
• Supporting a pupil with autism, behavioural and trauma-related needs.
• Helping with emotional regulation and engagement in learning.
• Using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
• Supporting the pupil during transitions and challenging periods of the school day.
• Building a consistent and trusting relationship with the pupil.
• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive social interaction.
• Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral team.
