Job summary

Brent Primary School in Brent is seeking a Year 5 Learning Mentor to support Year 5 pupils and help prepare them for Year 6 and SATs. You will work with teachers and school leaders to deliver targeted academic and pastoral support, fostering confidence and resilience in learners.

The role focuses on English and Mathematics interventions, building study habits and a growth mindset to ensure a smooth transition into Year 6.

Qualifications

• Caring, enthusiastic and patient with a passion for helping children succeed.
• Experience with primary-aged children, KS2 experience preferred.
• Strong English and Mathematics knowledge for KS2.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Organised and able to monitor pupil progress and maintain records.
• Proactive, positive approach to supporting pupils of varying abilities.
• Commitment to building confidence, resilience and love of learning.

Responsibilities

• Deliver one-to-one and small-group interventions in English and Maths.
• Reinforce learning objectives with class teachers.
• Support smooth transition from Year 5 to Year 6, building key skills.
• Foster positive relationships, motivation and growth mindset.
• Provide targeted academic and emotional support to overcome barriers.
• Monitor progress and keep records of interventions.
• Update teachers and parents on pupil progress.
• Aid SATs preparation, revision and exam techniques.
• Promote positive behaviour and independent learning.
• Help create a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
