Job summary

Thames Water is seeking a Yard Person for the Kidlington depot in Oxfordshire. You will manage the storage, issuing and return of stock, ensuring a safe, clean yard and compliant site operations.

As part of the Inventory and Supply team, you will perform stock checks, maintain labels, manage waste in line with policy, and engage with frontline teams to uphold site safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience with manual handling and stock control in a depot/yard environment.
• Awareness of health and safety practices in warehousing and yard operations.
• Forklift licence and/or Tele-handler qualification is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, safe, and tidy yard environment.
• Ensure plant, equipment and materials are stored, secured, maintained, and accounted for.
• Label and keep S&G and materials clearly identifiable and ready for use.
• Coordinate with frontline teams for issuing/returning Thames Water stock per process.
• Dispose of waste in line with Thames Water Waste Management processes.
• Conduct weekly/monthly stock takes, inspections, and audits.
• Ensure yard/depot vehicles comply with site safety and traffic plans.
• Record and report Health & Safety discrepancies.
• Participate in team meetings and support continuous improvement.

Job description

We are looking to recruit a yard person to work at our storage and distribution site in Kidlington, Oxfordshire.

You will play an important role within the Thames Water Inventory and Supply team, who manage the storage and distribution of equipment, critical materials, field engineering parts & tools and mobile plant.

What you will be doing as a Yard Person

• Maintain a clean, safe, and tidy working environment within the yard.
• Ensure that all plant, equipment, and materials are correctly stored, secured, maintained, and always accounted for.
• Ensure that all plant, equipment, barriers/signing & guarding (S&G) and materials are clearly labelled and readily available.
• Engaging with the front-line operational teams to ensure that the issuing and returning of Thames Water stock is by our process.
• All waste is disposed of in accordance with Thames Waters Waste Management process
• Carry out regular monitoring and reporting (including stock take, inspections and audits) on a weekly and monthly basis.
• Ensure that all vehicles within the yard and depot adhere to agreed Thames Water site safety and traffic management plan.
• Record and report any Health & Safety discrepancies.
• To engage and be part of team meetings, to maintain safe working practices, work towards achieving site pride and develop continuous improvement processes

Location – Kidlington Depot, OX5 1QT

Working Hours – 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday

What you should bring to the role

• Experience in manual handling, stock control, depot & yard management.
• Desirable if you have a forklift licence and/or Tele-handler qualification
• Awareness of health and safety and possibly experience working in an environment where this is a priority.
• Good knowledge of safe operational practice, operation of vehicles and equipment and methods of loading and off-loading.
• Happy to work outside in all weather conditions
