Job summary

Thames Water is hiring a Yard Person at Kidlington Depot to join the Inventory and Supply team. You will manage storage, stock issuance and returns, and ensure all plant, equipment and materials are correctly stored, labeled, and accounted for.

The role is outdoors and requires strong attention to detail and teamwork. Salary starts at £31,500 per year, with 24 days holiday (28 with length of service), a pension scheme, health and wellbeing benefits, and 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday in

Qualifications

• Experience in manual handling, stock control, depot & yard management.
• Desirable forklift licence and/or Tele-handler qualification.
• Awareness of health and safety and possibly experience in a safety-priority environment.
• Good knowledge of safe operational practice, operation of vehicles and equipment and methods of loading and off-loading.
• Happy to work outside in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean, safe, and tidy yard.
• Ensure plant, equipment, and materials are stored, secured, maintained, and accounted for.
• Labelled and accessible plant, equipment, barriers/Signage & guarding (S&G).
• Engage with front-line teams to manage stock issuing and returns.
• Dispose of waste per Thames Water Waste Management process.
• Conduct weekly/monthly stock checks, inspections, and audits.
• Ensure yard vehicles adhere to site safety and traffic plans.
• Record and report Health & Safety discrepancies.
• Participate in team meetings to maintain safe working practices and drive improvements.

Job description

Based in Kidlington, this full-time Yard Person position with Pertemps Thames Water offers a competitive salary from £31,500 per annum, dependent on experience.

You will join the Inventory and Supply team, managing storage and distribution for essential equipment, materials, tools, and mobile plant.

Responsibilities include maintaining a tidy, secure yard; correctly storing and labelling all items; and ensuring plant and guarding are always accounted for.

You will also liaise with operational staff to manage stock issuance and returns.

This role demands strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Prior experience in a similar yard or warehouse setting is beneficial.

You must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.

We are looking to recruit a yard person to work at our storage and distribution site in Kidlington, Oxfordshire.

You will play an important role within the Thames Water Inventory and Supply team, who manage the storage and distribution of equipment, critical materials, field engineering parts & tools and mobile plant.

What you will be doing as a Yard Person

• Maintain a clean, safe, and tidy working environment within the yard.
• Ensure that all plant, equipment, and materials are correctly stored, secured, maintained, and always accounted for.
• Ensure that all plant, equipment, barriers/signing & guarding (S&G) and materials are clearly labelled and readily available.
• Engage with the front-line operational teams to ensure that the issuing and returning of Thames Water stock is by our process.
• All waste is disposed of in accordance with Thames Waters Waste Management process.
• Carry out regular monitoring and reporting (including stock take, inspections and audits) on a weekly and monthly basis.
• Ensure that all vehicles within the yard and depot adhere to agreed Thames Water site safety and traffic management plan.
• Record and report any Health & Safety discrepancies.
• To engage and be part of team meetings, to maintain safe working practices, work towards achieving site pride and develop continuous improvement processes.

Location – Kidlington Depot, OX5 1QT.

Working Hours – 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

What you should bring to the role

• Experience in manual handling, stock control, depot & yard management.
• Desirable if you have a forklift licence and/or Tele-handler qualification.
• Awareness of health and safety and possibly experience working in an environment where this is a priority.
