Job summary

Pertemps Plymouth is seeking a Yard Operative for a temporary two-month assignment in Plymouth (PL9). The role runs 08:00–18:00 on a 4 on/4 off rotating pattern, including weekends, outdoors in all weather. You’ll assist customers, manage site operations, ensure safety, and perform manual handling as required.

Pay is £13.00 per hour (standard hours) and £16.00 per hour on Sundays. A strong focus on safety, customer service, and teamwork will help you succeed in this busy public-facing

Qualifications

• Experience in manual labouring within the last 6 months.
• Background in warehouse, waste management, or yard operations.
• Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work safely in a physically demanding outdoor environment.
• Good teamwork and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience of manual handling or general labouring duties.
• Reliable, proactive and professional approach to work.
• Basic numeracy and confidence handling customer payments.

Responsibilities

• Assist members of the general public with high levels of customer service and guidance to site users.
• Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic safely around the site.
• Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment.
• Carry out manual handling in accordance with health and safety procedures.
• Promote safe working practices and report hazards, incidents, or unsafe behaviours.
• Process customer payments for applicable chargeable waste streams accurately and professionally.
• Deliver excellent customer service and represent the site in a professional manner.
• Follow all operational procedures and health and safety guidelines.
