Job summary

Pertemps is seeking a Yard Operative for a temporary 2-month assignment in Plymouth, PL9. The role is outdoors with 4 on 4 off shifts, 08:00-18:00, including weekends, with a standard rate of £13 per hour and Sundays at £16 per hour.

You’ll support site operations, assist customers, manage manual handling tasks, and help maintain safety and order across a busy public-facing facility. This hands-on position requires good communication, teamwork and reliability in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Manual labouring experience within the last 6 moths.
• Warehouse, Waste management or yard operations.
• A strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• The ability to work safely in a physically demanding outdoor environment.
• Good teamwork and problem solving abilities.
• Experience of manual handling or general labouring duties.
• A reliable, proactive and professional approach to work.
• Basic numeracy and confidence handling customer payments.

Responsibilities

• Assist members of the general public with high levels of customer service and providing clear guidance and support to site users.
• Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic safely around the site.
• Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment at all times.
• Carry out manual handling activities in accordance with health and safety procedures.
• Promote safe working practices and report hazards, incidents, or unsafe behaviours.
• Process customer payments for applicable chargeable waste streams accurately and professionally.
• Deliver excellent customer service and represent the site in a professional manner.
• Follow all operational procedures and health and safety guidelines.
