Job summary

TeacherActive is working with a welcoming primary school in Smethwick, Sandwell, to appoint an experienced Year 6 Teacher for Upper Key Stage 2. The role is a supply long-term position, full-time, Monday to Friday, starting October 2026.

The successful candidate will plan engaging lessons across Year 6, differentiate for mixed-ability groups, assess progress and support pupils with SEND/EAL. QTS and KS2 experience are essential, with a collaborative attitude toward the school team.

Qualifications

• Hold UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
• Experience teaching Key Stage 2, ideally Year 5/6.
• Plan and deliver engaging Year 6 lessons.
• Strong classroom and behaviour management.
• Differentiate for mixed-ability classes.
• Assess, mark and monitor pupil progress.
• Experience with SEND and/or EAL is advantageous.
• Additional language skills are a bonus.

Salary: £146.85 - £202.33 per day

Introduction to the Role

They are looking for a teacher who can build positive relationships, maintain high expectations and create an engaging and supportive classroom environment.

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience teaching Upper Key Stage 2, particularly Year 5 or Year 6, and will be confident taking on the full responsibilities of a class teacher.

Experience supporting pupils with SEND or working within diverse school communities would be highly desirable. The ability to speak an additional language alongside English would also be advantageous due to the diverse community the school serves.

Candidate Requirements

• Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.
• Have previous teaching experience within Key Stage 2, ideally Upper KS2.
• Be confident planning and preparing engaging lessons across the Year 6 curriculum.
• Have strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
• Be confident differentiating lessons for mixed-ability classes.
• Have experience assessing, marking and monitoring pupil progress.
• Have a positive and inclusive approach to teaching.
• Be confident supporting pupils with a range of additional needs.
• Experience working with pupils with SEND and/or EAL would be advantageous.
• An additional spoken language alongside English would be desirable but is not essential.
• Be able to work effectively as part of a wider school team.

Compliance Requirements

• Providing two professional references from recent employers.
• Holding an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service.
• If you do not currently hold a suitable DBS, being willing to obtain a new Enhanced DBS through TeacherActive.
• Having the right to work in the UK.
• Completing all required safeguarding and compliance checks prior to placement.
