  • Work with gear trains and hydraulic systems and follow drawings and instructions.

Summary - Basic Function Of The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Workshop Technician to join our team at our Aberdeen facility. This is a workshop-based refurbishment role focused on inspecting, repairing, maintaining and function-testing our specialist tools and equipment. The position does not involve operating the machinery at customer locations or other company sites. All refurbishment and function testing will be completed at our Aberdeen facility. You will diagnose faults, replace or repair components, complete quality inspections and ensure equipment is returned to a safe and reliable working condition. We welcome applicants with practical mechanical experience who are detail-focused, safety-conscious and keen to develop their technical knowledge.

Shift Pattern
  • Week 1: Monday to Friday, 7:30am–4:00pm
  • Week 2: Monday to Friday, 7:30am–5:00pm

This two-week shift pattern then repeats.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
  • Prepare refurbished equipment to fulfil rental orders and help maintain fleet availability.
  • Assess machinery and mechanical components to identify faults and required repairs.
  • Refurbish and maintain equipment including mills, clamshells and flange-facing tools.
  • Disassemble, inspect and troubleshoot equipment before replacing parts, reassembling tools and testing them for safe operation.
  • Work with gear trains and mechanical and hydraulic systems.
  • Follow technical drawings, work instructions and equipment specifications.
  • Use precision measuring and testing instruments, gauges and quality inspection procedures.
  • Complete machining activities to restore equipment to the required working condition.
  • Carry out workshop-based function testing on pumps, torque equipment, RSLs, hoses and other equipment.
  • Clean equipment and accessories, including sockets, T-blocks, spanners and pullers.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, maintenance and test results.
  • Monitor spare-part stock levels and raise purchase requisitions when required.
  • Complete equipment refurbishment and repair training and work towards agreed quality and output targets.
  • Share technical knowledge and support the development of colleagues when needed.
  • Work with engineering and operational teams to identify practical improvements.
  • Follow all health, safety, security, environmental and quality requirements.
  • Report positive safety observations, potential hazards and areas for improvement.
  • Support the safe movement or delivery of equipment between local facilities or customer sites when required. This relates to equipment transport only and does not involve operating machinery at those locations.
  • Complete forklift or other relevant driving training if required.
  • Take part in an on-call rota, which may occasionally include evenings or weekends.
  • Represent the company professionally and follow all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Promote a workplace where safety, teamwork and respect come first.
Skills And Competencies
  • Practical mechanical, machining, refurbishment or equipment-repair skills.
  • An understanding of machining principles, tools and techniques.
  • Experience with mills, clamshells or flange-facing equipment would be helpful but is not essential.
  • The ability to read and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, work instructions and safety information.
  • Confidence using measuring instruments, gauges and testing equipment.
  • A practical and methodical approach to diagnosing and resolving mechanical faults.
  • The ability to follow written, verbal and diagram-based instructions.
  • Good attention to detail and a commitment to completing work safely and accurately.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different teams.
  • The ability to maintain straightforward repair, inspection and maintenance records.
  • Basic numeracy skills, including working with measurements, proportions, percentages, area and volume.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word. Experience using an ERP system would be helpful.
  • A willingness to learn, complete relevant training and develop new technical skills.
Education and Background
  • GCSEs, or equivalent secondary education qualifications. Relevant practical experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications.
  • Experience in a mechanical, machining, maintenance, refurbishment or workshop-based position.
  • A technical qualification or certification in machining, engineering or mechanical repair would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Experience working with hydraulic or mechanical equipment would be an advantage.
  • Previous warehouse or equipment-rental experience would be helpful.
  • Forklift certification is preferred, although training may be provided.
  • A valid driving licence is required.
  • The successful applicant must be able to meet any role-related background, screening and site-access requirements.
