Responsibilities

Workshop Technician - Construction
Salary: BS14-18 (currently £25,878 - £26,452 pro rata)
Hours of Work: 15 hours per week worked over 2 days (0.3485 FTE)
Contract: Term Time Only - 38 weeks, Permanent

Qualifications:

• You are required to hold a First Aid certificate. If not currently held, the College will support you to undertake and achieve this within an agreed timescale.
• You are required to hold an appropriate technical qualification at minimum level 2. If not currently held, the College will support you to undertake and achieve this within an agreed timescale.

This is a varied role that would suit someone who is hands‑on, well organised and comfortable working in a busy practical training environment. The work will include preparing workshop areas, moving and organising materials, supporting stock control, helping to maintain tidy and safe learning spaces, and assisting staff with the practical logistics of workshop delivery.

The role will include:

• Preparing workshops, materials, tools and equipment for teaching and practical activities.
• Supporting the organisation, storage and movement of materials across construction workshop areas.
• Assisting with stock control, deliveries, ordering preparation and general stores duties.
• Helping to keep workshops, stores and practical teaching areas clean, tidy, safe and well organised.
• Carrying out routine checks and reporting defects, damage, missing equipment or potential hazards.
• Supporting teaching staff with the practical setup and clearing down of workshop activities.
• Helping to ensure learners work in a safe and professional workshop environment.
• Contributing to good housekeeping, safe access routes, waste management and general workshop organization.
• Supporting bricklaying, electrical installation and other construction workshops as required.

We are looking for someone who has:

• A practical, hands‑on approach and a willingness to support a wide range of workshop activities.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to keep workshop areas tidy, safe and well prepared.
• An understanding of the importance of health and safety in a practical workshop or construction environment.
• The ability to work calmly and professionally around learners, staff, tools, equipment and materials.
• Good communication skills and the confidence to report concerns or potential hazards.
• A reliable and flexible approach, with the ability to respond to the changing needs of a busy construction department.
• Experience in construction, maintenance, stores, facilities, caretaking, logistics or a practical trade environment would be an advantage, but the most important qualities are reliability, common sense, a positive attitude and a commitment to safe working.
