Job summary

The Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS) invites applications for a workshop technician to support research and teaching laboratories. You will maintain, repair, and test scientific equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation in line with health and safety requirements.

Candidates should have up to 3 years’ relevant experience or an HNC-level qualification via a modern apprenticeship, and be confident using IT systems.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience gained through up to 3 years in a related role or via a modern apprenticeship equivalent to an HNC.
  • Maintenance, basic repair and testing of scientific equipment.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety practices and safe working procedures, including manual handling.
  • Confident use of a range of IT systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, repair and test scientific equipment to ensure reliable operation.
  • Support teaching and research laboratories with equipment handling and safety.
  • Apply health and safety procedures and promote a safe working environment.
  • Keep records and report faults promptly.

Job description

The Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences(SIPBS) is a leading centre for research and training, focused onthe discovery, development and delivery of better medicines. Wedeliver a wide range of accredited undergraduate (UG) andpostgraduate (PG) programmes to over 1800 students andundertake world-class research with real world impact. The Institute seeks to appoint a workshop technician who canprovide a support service to our research and teachinglaboratories. Candidates will have the knowledge, skills andexperience normally associated with learning gained throughprevious relevant work experience, perhaps up to 3 years. Alternatively, the route to this level is through completion of amodern apprenticeship which is equivalent to an HNC levelqualification and incorporates practical work experience. Responsibilities will include the maintenance, basic repair, andtesting of scientific equipment. The ideal candidate will have agood understanding of health and safety practices, experience inapplying safe working procedures, including manual handling,and be confident using a range of IT systems. A proactiveapproach, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining asafe and efficient working environment are essential.
