Job summary

University of Strathclyde, Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS) is seeking a stores technician to support our research and teaching laboratories in Glasgow. The role involves receiving deliveries, safe handling of solvents, chemicals, biological materials and gases, and processing hazardous waste; also providing a laundry service.

Job description

The Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences(SIPBS) is a leading centre for centre for research and training,focused on the discovery, development and delivery of bettermedicines. We deliver a wide range of accredited undergraduate(UG) and postgraduate (PG) programmes to over 1800 studentsand undertake world-class research with real world impact.

The Institute seeks to appoint a stores technician who canprovide a support service to our research and teachinglaboratories. Candidates will have the knowledge, skills andexperience normally associated with learning gained throughprevious relevant work experience. Alternatively, the route to thislevel is through completion of a modern apprenticeship which isequivalent to an HNC level qualification and incorporatespractical work experience.Responsibilities will include the receipt, delivery and the safehandling goods and materials used in the specialist research andteaching laboratories, including solvents, chemicals, biologicalmaterial and gases, some of which are hazardous. The dailycollecting and processing biological hazardous waste andglassware from laboratories and provision of a laundry service.

The successful applicant will have an existing knowledge and akeen awareness of the importance and day-to-day application ofHealth & Safety, manual handling procedures and basic IT skills.Applicants may use tools such as AI to support their application;however, all submissions must accurately reflect their ownexperience and understanding.
