Job summary

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service is seeking a Workshop Team Leader based in Gateshead. You will guide a team of technicians, coordinate inspection and maintenance of fire appliances, and plan scheduled work while handling unscheduled tasks to support service delivery.

The role reports to the Workshop Manager and requires a Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance qualification, HGV maintenance experience, and a UK driving licence. On-call duties and safety are core to the position.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification or equivalent in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Heavy Vehicle).
• Proven experience in HGV maintenance and repair with strong diagnostic skills.
• Previous supervisory or chargehand experience is highly desirable.
• Full UK driving licence; Class C licence preferred.
• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations related to vehicle maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of technicians, providing guidance, support, and technical expertise.
• Allocate tasks and ensure that work is completed efficiently and to a high standard.
• Mentor staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety.
• Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, promoting safe working practices at all times.
• Provide comprehensive, professional advice and support to the Service.
