Job summary

Stagecoach Group Limited is seeking a proactive Workshop Manager for our Barnstaple depot. You will lead a hands-on team to ensure vehicles are clean, safe and road-ready while supporting the growth of the workshop as electric vehicles are introduced.

You will oversee maintenance scheduling, deliver training where needed, and drive continuous improvement while maintaining Stagecoach safety standards and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Relevant engineering experience such as mechanical, electrical and bodywork knowledge.
  • NVQ Level 3 (mechanical or automotive) or equivalent.
  • Experience managing or supervising a workshop or technical team; strong PCV operations knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety practices and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and motivate the workshop team to deliver safe, reliable and well-presented vehicles.
  • Schedule and prioritise vehicle maintenance and servicing activities.
  • Support team development, identify training needs and foster continuous improvement.
  • Quality check vehicles after maintenance to ensure high standards.
  • Uphold health, safety and environmental standards in line with legislation and Stagecoach policy.

As Workshop Manager, you’ll play a central role in ensuring our fleet is clean, safe, and road-ready, while supporting the ongoing development of the workshop as our fleet evolves, including the introduction of electric vehicles and associated depot infrastructure.


What you’ll be doing


  • Leading and motivating your team to deliver safe, reliable and well-presented vehicles

  • Scheduling and prioritising vehicle maintenance and servicing activities

  • Supporting team development, identifying training needs and fostering continuous improvement

  • Quality checking vehicles after maintenance to ensure high standards are met

  • Upholding health, safety and environmental standards in line with legislation and Stagecoach policy


What we’re looking for


  • Relevant engineering experience, including mechanical, electrical and bodywork knowledge

  • Qualified to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in relevant engineering field (mechanical or automotive)

  • Experience managing or supervising a workshop or technical team, and a strong understanding of PCV operations

  • Strong understanding of health and safety practices and regulatory standards

  • A people‑centred approach to leadership, with strong communication and influencing skills

  • Ability to plan, analyse, and make confident decisions in a dynamic environment
