Job summary

Auto Skills UK in Padworth is seeking an experienced Workshop Chargehand to help run a busy workshop for HGVs. You will supervise a team, coordinate workloads and ensure jobs progress smoothly in a fast-paced environment.

The role involves hands-on servicing and repairs, diagnosing faults, and guiding technicians to deliver quality work on time. A proactive leader with good organisational skills will thrive in this permanent, full-time position.

Qualifications

• Experience as an HGV Technician in a commercial vehicle workshop.
• Experience in a supervisory or chargehand role, or strong leadership potential.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance, servicing and repair procedures.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day running of the workshop and coordinate workloads.

Workshop Chargehand

Location: Padworth

Salary: £53,000 per annum + Overtime

Hours: Monday to Friday - Rotating Shifts

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

The Role

• Supporting the day-to-day running of the workshop and coordinating workloads.
• Supervising, motivating and supporting a team of technicians.
• Allocating jobs and monitoring progress to ensure work is completed efficiently.
• Carrying out routine servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs
• Diagnosing mechanical, electrical and technical faults
• Identifying faults and completing effective repairs

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience as an HGV Technician, ideally within a commercial vehicle workshop.
• Experience in a supervisory, team leader or chargehand position, or the ability to demonstrate strong leadership potential.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• A good understanding of vehicle maintenance, servicing and repair procedures.
• The ability to organise workloads and support a team in a fast-paced workshop.
