Job summary

Barrett Steel Limited is seeking a proactive Operations Manager based at the BCD Tubes site. The role oversees daily yard, warehousing and site operations, driving productivity, profitability and efficiency while aligning with commercial goals.

You will join the site Leadership Team to shape strategic direction and continuous improvement. You will lead Team Leaders, champion a safety-first approach, and ensure customer delivery performance aligns with business targets.

Qualifications

• Experience driving safety, quality and group policy compliance.
• Proven track record in managing teams in manufacturing/processing settings.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with disciplinary processes and performance management.
• Willingness to work across all three shifts when required.

Responsibilities

Job description

Based at our BCD Tubes site this important role reports to the Branch Manager; the purpose of this role is to manage all daily yard, warehousing & operational activities across the site, whilst driving process and operational efficiencies. To manage and coordinate all goods in and picking operations, ensuring, and improving levels of productivity, profitability and efficiency which meets the site’s business requirements. You'll fully align all site operational activities with commercial goals, to deliver short and long-term business objectives, drive cultural change to deliver process efficiencies whilst improving health and safety, quality, and customer delivery performance. You'll be an integral part of the site Leadership Team, playing a leading role in the strategic development and direction of the business.

Duties Include :

• Ensure that operations, (including 3 rd party workers or suppliers), are conducted in manner which fully complies with Barrett Steel Health and Safety, Quality, Environmental and Group policies, and all relevant legislative requirements.
• Supervise the Team Leaders and to continually achieve and wherever possible exceed productivity, customer service and quality target levels across the range of activities undertaken by the site.
• To develop a "safety-first" approach within Operations and embed a culture of continuous improvement.
• To ensure that a strong customer-focus is created throughout the site and sustained, through standardised application of lean techniques.
• To improve all yard /site processes from order receipt through to the fulfilment of customer deliverables.
• To drive organisational improvements at every level across both sites taking responsibility, and accountability for performance management of all relevant staff
• Ensure that all warehouse staff are working effectively, and site is maintained at the highest standard.
• Ensuring the operational capacity including, manning, processing and distribution, satisfies customer requirements both current and projected; that site operates effectively for storage and agreed goods in procedures to maintain the integrity of stock.
• Maintain and recommend improvements as necessary to the condition and performance of site.
• Maintain site security and protect assets to limit liability and minimise loss
• To step up and fill in for the Branch Manager during leave and oversee the other departments on site.

All About You/Essential Skills Required

You will have the passion, drive, and confidence to work within the business in a collaborative, creative way.

• A safety focused attitude and experience of managing safety, quality, and group policies.
• NEBOSH or IOSH managing safety qualification
• Previous experience in a similar management role within an Operational environment in a manufacturing or processing environment with demonstratable experience in manging people up to and inclusive of disciplinary processes.
• Have relevant management training and experience.
• Possess good written and verbal communication skills as well as IT based understanding
• Due to the nature of the role, although the core hours for this role are days, flexibility will be needed to work/support on all 3 operational shifts as and when needed.
