Job summary

Barrett Steel Limited in Dudley is seeking an experienced Laser Operator to join the team on a weekly rotating shift. Hours are 6:00am to 2:00pm, then 2:00pm to 10:00pm, Monday to Friday.

The role involves operating CNC laser cutting machines and supporting other operators within a centralised manufacturing plant. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with laser cutting, a strong safety mindset, and a collaborative approach.

Qualifications

• Experience operating CNC laser cutting machines.
• Ability to work in a team and deliver quality results.
• Strong health and safety awareness.
• Driving licence preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC laser cutting machines and other production machinery.
• Assist other machine operators as needed.
• Set up lenses based on material type and thickness; load programs and set parameters.
• Load component material and carry out processing of material.
• Carry out finished goods inspections and record results.
• Identify programming and setup errors and correct them.
• Participate in continuous improvement, 5S and total production maintenance.
• Work efficiently as part of a team and ensure documentation accuracy.

Job description

Barrett Steel Tubes, Dudley, have gone through a major transformation from a traditional Steel Stockholder to be “The Centre of Excellence” in machining including Tube Lasers, Auto Sawing, Bending and Flow Drilling for the group. A centralised manufacturing plant servicing all group and external customers, offering exceptional services by dedicated and well-trained staff. We now have an opening for an experience Laser Operator on the weekly rotating shift the hours are Monday to Friday – 6:00am to 14:00pm then Monday to Friday – 14:00pm to 22:00pm

Specific tasks will include:

• Operating CNC laser cutting machines and other machinery used in the production process.
• Assist other machine operators.
• Select and set up lenses based on material type and thickness, load programs and set machine parameters to ensure optimal performance of the equipment.
• Select, inspect and load component material.
• Carry out processing of material.
• Carry out and record finished goods inspections as specified.
• Identify programming and set up errors.
• Carry out continuous improvement, 5S and total production maintenance activities.
• Work efficiently and effectively as part of a team
• Ensure all documentation is correctly actioned for accuracy.
• Ensure all stringent Health & Safety standards are adhered to at all times.
• Operate machinery, including Fork Lifts and cranes, once trained to do so.

Essential Skills for the role:

• Experience of operating CNC laser cutting machines
• Have a flexible attitude, be results oriented, and enjoy working in a team environment.
• Fork Lift and Crane Driving are desirable but not essential.

• Driving Licence preferred but not essential
