Job summary

University of Sheffield is seeking an Engineering Workplace Coach to join the AMRC Training Centre Team. You will coordinate on- and off-the-job learning for engineering apprentices, setting targets and assessing progress at the apprentices' workplaces, with employers contributing to reviews.

Ideal candidates hold an engineering degree with industrial experience (machining) and may already have assessor/verifier qualifications. Strong planning, communication, and IT skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Level 6 qualification in an engineering (or related) discipline.
  • Significant experience of technical work in a mechatronics maintenance or machining engineering setting.
  • Assessor qualification, Teaching qualification, Internal Quality Assurance qualification or be prepared to work towards achieving this qualification.
  • Experience of providing excellent advice, guidance and support to ensure learners succeed.
  • Strong customer interaction skills including good oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out initial onboarding reviews to ensure apprentices complete a skills scan and understand their training plan.
  • Provide high quality information, advice and guidance to learners to support career development.
  • Develop and deliver highly effective teaching, coaching and assessment practices for learners.
  • Undertake compliant tri-partite learner progress reviews and assessments in the workplace with employer involvement.
  • Monitor and ensure learners demonstrate 4 weekly active learning and track the Off The Job % to ensure compliance.

Overview

We are looking for an Engineering Workplace Coach to be part of the AMRC Training Centre Team.

You will be part of the team coordinating on and off the job learning and assessment of our engineering and manufacturing advanced, higher and degree apprentices. You will work with a number of apprentices, setting learning targets and assessments to support them to practice and develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by the apprenticeship standard. The reviews will take place in the apprentices' workplace with employers contributing to the target setting and providing feedback on progress.

Ideally you will hold a degree in an engineering (or related) discipline and relevant industrial experience preferably within machining. You may already be a qualified Workplace Coach, holding appropriate assessor/verifier qualifications.

The role requires a good working knowledge of engineering practice, well developed planning and organisational skills, the ability to communicate effectively with apprentices and employers, with good questioning skills and the confidence to discuss a range of topics and issues with apprentices and employers.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Carry out initial onboarding reviews to ensure that apprentices complete a skills scan, understand their training plan and check that the apprentice can achieve the programme.
  • Provide high quality information, advice and guidance to learners, to supporting career development of apprentices.
  • To develop and deliver highly effective teaching, coaching and assessment practices for learners, utilising a range of blended learning approaches.
  • Undertake fully compliant and timely tri-partite learner progress reviews and assessments in the workplace. To carry out meaningful discussions with learners that focus on the learning that the apprentice has undertaken. To ensure that employers are present and fully involved within the review.
  • Monitor and ensure that all learners demonstrate 4 weekly active learning and track the Off The Job % to ensure that the AMRC TC remains 100% compliant at all times.
  • Ensure that all apprentices within the assigned caseload meet the agreed practical period end dates and end point assessment by the agreed apprenticeship end date.
  • Support and promote involvement in the personal and professional development curriculum, which link to the requirements of the overall apprenticeship standard, to enhance the offering of the AMRC Training Centre.
  • Provide information on learner progress to employers, acting upon issues in a timely manner. Identify learners that require support or who are not making expected progress that fall into the at risk category' immediately to the TC management team and support teams.
  • Ensure that curriculum assessments and reviews are completed to the required AMRC quality standard.
  • Ensure learner feedback is captured, evaluated and fed into the Self-Assessment Review process to constantly improve the quality of provision
  • Ensure that all apprentices within the caseloads Onefile accounts are monitored to ensure that their progress is in line with set parameters and that their account is kept up to date at all times.
  • Attend monthly standardisation meetings and monthly update meetings with the Workplace Curriculum Manager, as well as relevant training sessions.
  • Take part in open events at the Training Centre, up to about six a year, in the evenings.
