University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre seeks a University Teacher to deliver degree apprenticeship programmes in manufacturing and engineering. Overview

The AMRC Training Centre delivers high quality apprenticeships in engineering and manufacturing to apprentices in the Sheffield City Region, and nationally, from Advanced through to Higher and Degree Apprenticeships.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team as a University Teacher teaching on our degree apprenticeship programmes, playing a key role in the continued success of our degree apprenticeships in manufacturing and engineering.

You will be responsible for developing and planning curricula in Mould and Tooling Design; selecting teaching methods, resources and reading material; writing and developing assessments; and providing students with high quality feedback as a module lead. Your teaching will engage students and will include active learning.

You will have proven teaching ability, preferably with a teaching qualification and experience of teaching.

Main duties and responsibilities

• Design teaching programmes, identifying learning objectives: selecting teaching methods, techniques, resources and reading; determining, designing and producing study material; planning for module delivery and learning, and individual student needs.
• Deliver teaching modules, communicating subject matter, check apprentices' learning; giving academic advice and feedback.
• Supervise and assess student projects and dissertations.
• Carry out assessment for modules, designing assessments and criteria; marking, ensuring adequate moderation; providing written/oral feedback; liaising with external examiners in connection with the approval of assessments, marking criteria; attending exam boards; and collating and providing final assessments of students.
• Reflect on your own teaching design and delivery; and implementing ideas for improving your own performance.
• Undertake academic tutor responsibilities for students, directing them, as required, to University support services appropriate to their needs.
• Establish collaborative working relationships and networks with academic and industrial collaborators, facilitating access to expertise, services and resources to provide a high quality educational experience for apprentices, for example through authentic projects, relevant expert lectures, and effective and innovative assessment.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge developments in education theory and practice, identifying opportunities and their impact.
• Keep up to date with developments in practice in your subject area of expertise.
• Participate in committees and meetings; contribute to wider departmental policy development; continue professional development.
• Plan and prioritise your own daily teaching and administrative tasks.
• Contribute to the preparation of and participate in Ofsted inspections.
• You will make a full and active contribution to the principles of the Sheffield Academic'. Essential criteria

• Have an honours degree (or equivalent experience) in manufacturing or engineering (assessed at application)
• Either a PhD or EngD in a relevant subject area; or significant graduate level vocational experience as an engineering or manufacturing practitioner (assessed at application and interview)
• Either proven teaching ability, ideally with a teaching qualification; or demonstrable experience of working in an engineering context (either educational or industrial) (assessed at application and microteach)
• Experience of designing, developing and delivering high quality teaching resources (assessed at microteach and interview)
• Experience of managing students in teaching and assessment contexts and providing high quality feedback to students (assessed at microteach and interview)
• Enthusiasm to deliver university teaching to a high standard, covering a range of topics relevant to the Training Centre (assessed at microteach and interview)
• Ability and commitment to work with colleagues towards a common objective (assessed at interview and application)
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to communicate with a team of staff who have different jobs roles and specialisms (assessed at application and interview)
• Ability to analyse and solve problems with an appreciation of longer-term implications (assessed at application and interview)
• Ability to assess and organise resources, yourself, and plan and progress work activities to meet deadlines (assessed at application and interview)

Desirable criteria

• Experience of curriculum design in higher education (assessed at interview, and application)

Salary: £48,149 - £57,422 Potential to progress to £64,605 through sustained exceptional contribution, pro rata
