Job summary

Thorn Baker Construction requires a Working Foreman to lead site operatives on heritage and conservation projects in the East Midlands, including Daventry. This contract role is full-time with Monday–Friday hours and an immediate start.

Working Foreman

Location: East Midlands, Northamptonshire, Daventry

Job Type: Contract, Full-Time hours Monday - Friday

Immediate start, ongoing contract

Salary: £220 - £230 per day

Job Duties

• Supervise and lead site operatives to ensure the successful completion of heritage construction and restoration projects in line with project specifications and timelines.
• Coordinate daily on-site activities, allocate tasks effectively, and monitor progress to maintain productivity and quality standards.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations, including the implementation of safe working practises and risk assessments.
• Maintain clear and accurate records of work completed, site inspections, and any incidents or issues arising on site.
• Collaborate with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders to address site challenges and provide regular progress updates.
• Oversee the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and materials to ensure efficiency and reduce wastage.
• Promote and enforce adherence to conservation principles and methods appropriate to heritage projects.
• Support the training and development of site operatives, ensuring skills and knowledge are maintained to a high standard.

Required Qualifications

• Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) certificate.
• Valid Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
• Current First Aid qualification.
• Full, clean driving licence.

Experience

• Proven experience working as a foreman or working foreman on construction sites, preferably within heritage or conservation projects.
• Demonstrable ability to manage teams and coordinate site activities effectively.
• Experience of working within health and safety regulations and maintaining high standards of site safety.
• Familiarity with traditional building methods and materials used in heritage restoration.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong leadership and communication skills to manage and motivate site teams.
• Good organisational and time management abilities.
• Attention to detail, particularly regarding quality and conservation standards.
• Sound understanding of construction processes, site operations, and health and safety legislation.
• Ability to interpret and work from technical drawings and specifications.
• Problem-solving skills and the capacity to adapt to changing site conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Higher level site management qualification such as Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certificate.
• Additional specialised training related to heritage conservation or traditional building techniques.
• Experience with environmental and sustainability considerations in construction.

Working Conditions

• The role requires regular site attendance in varying weather conditions.
• Work may involve physical activity including lifting, climbing, and working at height.
• Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory on site.
• Occasional requirement to work extended hours or weekends to meet project deadlines.
• Travel within the East Midlands area to various project sites is expected.
