Job summary

Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) is seeking a Work Experience Officer for Construction to develop and deliver meaningful work experience opportunities across the group. You will identify and engage construction employers to secure placements for Brickwork, Carpentry and Joinery, Electrical, and other programmes, ensuring placements meet learning outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop positive, professional relationships with construction employers to promote work experience opportunities.
  • Work with curriculum teams to identify learners needing work experience and align placement outcomes.
  • Match learners to suitable work experience opportunities considering study programme and career goals.
  • Support learners to become work-and-site-ready, including CSCS cards and industry requirements.
  • Ensure placement documentation and checks meet health, safety, safeguarding, and insurance requirements.
  • Record and maintain learner and employer information on College systems like Grofar for monitoring and audit requirements.

Summary

Work Experience Officer - Construction Location: Newcastle College Salary: £26,878 - £32,291 per annum Full time hours initially fixed term until 31st August 2027. Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group (NSCG) is one of the very best colleges in the country. This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Employer Partnerships and Work Placement team. The role will involve supporting the development, co-ordination and delivery of meaningful work experience opportunities for Construction learners across Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group. The successful candidate will proactively identify and engage construction employers to secure appropriate work experience opportunities for learners studying Brickwork, Carpentry and Joinery, Electrical, and other relevant Construction programmes.


Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will hold a relevant qualification and have substantial experience of working with young people, employers, or within an education, employability, or learner support environment.


Main Duties and Responsibilities


  • To develop positive and professional relationships with construction employers, promoting the benefits of providing work experience and supporting employers to participate effectively.

  • To work closely with curriculum teams to identify learners requiring work experience and understand the requirements and intended outcomes of their placement.

  • To match learners to appropriate work experience opportunities, taking account of their programme of study, career aspirations, skills, individual circumstances, and the requirements of the employer.

  • To support learners to become work and site-ready prior to placement, including relevant pre-placement requirements such as CSCS cards and other industry-specific requirements where appropriate.

  • To ensure all necessary placement documentation and checks are completed accurately and in a timely manner, in accordance with College procedures and relevant health and safety, safeguarding, and insurance requirements.

  • To ensure work experience placements and associated learner and employer information are accurately recorded and maintained on College systems, including Grofar, to support effective monitoring, reporting, and audit requirements.


Required Skills and Experience


  • Holds a relevant qualification

  • Has substantial experience of supporting young people or learners within an education, employability, or structured support environment.

  • Holds English & Math GCSE or equivalent.

  • Is an effective communicator.

  • Has strong administrative skills, well organized, able to keep accurate and easily retrievable records.

  • Holds a current driving licence and has use of a car.

  • IT literate, experience of using MS Office software and databases.
