Job summary

DN Colleges is seeking a skilled Wood Machinist to support the Construction curriculum. You will prepare timber, machine components, and help keep equipment running safely for learners. The role requires Level 3 Bench Joinery and Level 2 Wood Machining qualifications, recent construction experience, and the ability to plan resources and support students.

Enhanced DBS is required. Permanent position with a salary of £26,131 to £27,436, 30 days leave plus holidays, pension and development

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and machine timber into sectional timbers and moulded components for curriculum delivery.
  • Set up and operate woodworking machinery including rip saws, crosscut saws, surface planers, thicknessers and wall saws.
  • Support curriculum staff with the supervision of learners and learner groups within workshop environments.
  • Provide guidance and support to learners to help them successfully complete their studies.
  • Undertake planning, preparation and assessment activities required to meet external body requirements.
  • Maintain learner records, attendance information and other departmental documentation.
  • Complete and maintain risk assessments, machine checks and safety records.
  • Carry out workshop safety inspections and produce relevant reports.
  • Undertake stocktaking activities and maintain inventories.
  • Support the maintenance, modification and suitability of specialist equipment and resources.
  • Assist with the purchasing of services and supplies for the curriculum area.
  • Represent the department at open events and other student recruitment activities.

Job description

The vacancy

DN Colleges is looking to appoint a skilled and motivated Wood Machinist to support the delivery of our Construction curriculum. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced woodworking professional to play a key role in preparing materials, maintaining specialist equipment and supporting learners within a practical educational environment.

Working closely with curriculum staff and the Curriculum Lead, you will prepare and machine timber products, maintain workshop resources and equipment, and help ensure learners benefit from a safe, well- organised and industry-focused learning environment. You will also contribute to learner support, quality processes, health and safety compliance and departmental activities that promote student recruitment and engagement.

This role would suit someone with current construction industry experience who enjoys sharing their knowledge and supporting the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

Key Responsibilities
