Job summary

IDAS is seeking a dedicated individual to provide practical and emotional support to women and children living in the refuge in York. This role emphasizes safeguarding, advocacy, and collaboration with partner agencies to enable safe resettlement and access to services.

You will carry a caseload of up to 8 families and work within a supportive, inclusive team, contributing to life-changing outcomes for clients. Training is provided and the role aligns with safer recruitment policies.

Qualifications

  • Experience in supporting women and families in crisis settings is desirable.
  • Good communication and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work with multi-agency partners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical and emotional support to women and children living in the refuge, assisting with benefits, budgeting and services.
  • Accompany clients to appointments (court, solicitors, healthcare) and attend MARAC and other meetings.
  • Collaborate with agencies to secure specialist support for debt or substance misuse and assist with resettlement.
  • Support safeguarding and child welfare in partnership with the Child Support Worker.
  • Manage a caseload of up to 8 families with tailored, structured plans.
  • Complete risk and needs assessments and follow IDAS policies.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Provide practical and emotional support to women and children living in the refuge, supporting clients with benefits claims, budgeting, and accessing external services.
  • Accompany clients to appointments such as court, solicitors, and healthcare providers, and attend MARAC and other multi-agency meetings to advocate for clients.
  • Work with other agencies to secure specialist support for issues such as debt or substance misuse, and assist with resettlement services for families moving on from the refuge.
  • Support safeguarding and child welfare in collaboration with the Child Support Worker.
  • Hold a caseload of up to 8 families, offering tailored support through structured plans.
  • Complete risk and needs assessments and respond appropriately in line with IDAS policies.
  • Promote activities that support recovery and empowerment.
  • Champion equality, diversity, and inclusion by ensuring services are accessible and responsive to the needs of all communities, including those who are underrepresented or marginalised .
