Job summary

Test Triangle Limited in the United Kingdom seeks an Experienced Wireless Network Engineer to modernize and enhance national grid connectivity. You will design, survey, and deploy enterprise WLAN, including 5G and SD-WAN overlays, with travel to UK sites for on-site and predictive surveys.

The role requires strong expertise in Cisco/Aruba WLAN, RF fundamentals, 802.11, EAP/RADIUS, ISE or ClearPass, and hands-on use of Ekahau tools.

Qualifications

• Experience with enterprise WLAN technologies and network design.
• Strong knowledge of RF fundamentals, channel planning and interference mitigation.
• Hands-on experience with 802.11 standards and WLAN authentication methods.
• Familiarity with ISE or ClearPass for policy-based access control.
• Proficient in using wireless survey tools (Ekahau).

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and optimize enterprise WLAN across office and industrial environments.
• Conduct wireless surveys (predictive and on-site) and RF analysis.
• Lead troubleshooting for complex Wi-Fi issues including authentication and interference.
• Create and update Low-Level Designs (LLDs) for Wi‑Fi, NAC and network services.
• Produce accurate Bill of Materials (BoM) for deployments and upgrades.
• Support Wi‑Fi lifecycle management including hardware and software updates.
• Collaborate with IT, operations and platform teams to deliver scalable solutions.
• Contribute to standards, design documentation and knowledge sharing.

Job Description

Experienced UK based Specialist Wireless Network Engineer required for a programme of work within National Grid which aims to modernize and enhance the UK network infrastructure to improve reliability, security, and user experience. Key initiatives include replacing end‑of‑life network hardware, deploying enhanced Wi‑Fi solutions, and provisioning high‑speed internet connectivity services overlayed with SDWAN technology.

The programme will also progress alternative connectivity options such as satellite and 5G solutions for disaster recovery and rapid deployment, while supporting facility expansion projects. Comprehensive wireless surveys and design work will be a significant part of this engagement, with ad‑hoc travel required to the UK national grid sites to conduct physical Wi‑Fi surveys and Desktop surveys with Ekahau tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy and optimise enterprise wireless LAN solutions across office and industrial environments.
• Conduct wireless surveys (predictive & on‑site), RF analysis and coverage optimisation.
• Lead troubleshooting for complex Wi‑Fi issues, including authentication, interference and performance degradation.
• Create and update Low‑Level Designs (LLDs) for Wi‑Fi, NAC and related network services.
• Produce accurate Bill of Materials (BoM) for new deployments, refresh programmes and upgrade initiatives.
• Support Wi‑Fi lifecycle management including hardware upgrades, software updates and capacity planning.
• Work with stakeholders across IT, operations and platform teams to define requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
• Contribute to standards, best practices, design documentation and knowledge sharing within the network engineering chapter.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands‑on experience with enterprise WLAN technologies (Cisco, Aruba).
• Deep understanding of:
• RF fundamentals (channel planning, power, interference mitigation)
• 802.11 standards including Wi‑Fi 5/6/6E/7
• WLAN authentication (EAP methods, RADIUS, role‑based access)
• Enterprise controllers, cloud‑managed Wi‑Fi platforms and policy engines
• Proficiency with wireless survey tools (Ekahau, Hamina etc.)
• Experience with Cradlepoint, or similar 5G cellular‑enabled networking platforms
• Experience supporting large‑scale Wi‑Fi environments in complex organisations.
• Experience with ISE and Aruba ClearPass for 802.1X, RADIUS, profiling and role‑based access
• Ability to interpret network analytics, performance data and incident trends.
• Excellent communication skills and comfort engaging with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Able to travel ad‑hoc to National Grid locations for onsite pre and post deployment Wi‑Fi surveys.
