Job summary

MOD Corsham Programme Defence Division seeks an experienced WINTEL Engineer to deliver hands-on Windows-based enterprise infrastructure support for the OpNET programme. You will install, configure and maintain Windows Server environments, deploy AD, DNS, Exchange, SQL and PKI services within highly virtualised, secure environments.

The role emphasizes lifecycle delivery, from installation through to testing and operation, with UK SC clearance required and 4 days on-site per week at MOD Corsham.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with Windows Server platforms (2012R2, 2016+).
• Experience deploying and administering Active Directory in secure environments.
• Experience with Microsoft enterprise services (PKI, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, SQL, WSUS).
• Experience with Windows in virtualised infrastructure.
• Proficient in patching, backup/restore, monitoring.
• PowerShell for administration and automation.
• Ability to produce technical design docs and runbooks.
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.

Overview

Our customer, a large defence organisation, is seeking an experienced WINTEL Engineer to deliver hands-on engineering support to the OpNET programme, designing, building and maintaining Windows-based enterprise infrastructure platforms.

The role focuses on Microsoft server technologies and enterprise services within highly virtualised environments, supporting full lifecycle delivery from installation and configuration through to integration, testing and operational support within secure or regulated environments.

Programme Context

The New Style of IT (Deployed) – NSoIT(D) – programme is delivering OpNET, a new C4 capability across the SECRET, Mission SECRET and OFFICIAL-SENSITIVE security domains.

The programme aims to deliver a highly secure, technologically advanced and evolutionary communications and information service that connects war-fighters and enables information advantage across the operational landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure and maintain Windows Server operating systems across enterprise environments.
• Deploy and support Microsoft enterprise services including Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange, SQL, Skype, WSUS, PKI and supporting applications.
• Administer and support Windows environments within virtualised infrastructure platforms.
• Perform system configuration, patching, backup and restore operations to maintain platform availability.
• Support system integration, troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues across infrastructure services.
• Produce and review technical artefacts including design documentation, build guides and operational procedures.
• Support wider system testing, integration and commissioning activities.
• Work with Service Management functions to investigate and resolve incidents and service requests.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, automation and standardisation of WINTEL services.
• Deliver activities in line with programme timelines, standards and security requirements.
• Provide support for Live Ops as required.

Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• Strong experience with Windows Server platforms, e.g. 2012R2, 2016 and later versions, in enterprise environments.
• Experience deploying and administering Active Directory in secure environments.
• Experience across Microsoft enterprise services, e.g. PKI, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, SQL and WSUS.
• Experience supporting Windows environments in virtualised infrastructure.
• Knowledge of system administration including patching, backup/restore and monitoring.
• Experience with PowerShell for administration and automation.
• Ability to produce technical documentation, including LLDs, build guides and runbooks.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and communication skills.
• Experience working within complex programmes and large technical teams.
• Understanding of service management principles (ITIL).

Desirable Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• Experience working within Defence or other secure public sector environments.
• Knowledge of virtualisation platforms, e.g. VMware.
• Experience with SCCM, SCOM or similar monitoring tools.
• Familiarity with networking concepts and Cisco technologies.
• Experience with Agile delivery and Atlassian toolsets, including JIRA and Confluence.
• Relevant certifications, e.g. MCSE or ITIL.
