Job summary

National Energy System Operator Limited in Warwick is seeking a Strategic Officer to support the West Midlands RESP, engaging with local authorities and energy networks to shape regional energy strategy.

You will collaborate with Strategic Leads, prepare concise reports, and deliver workshops. The role requires strong communication, project coordination, and an interest in Britain’s energy transition.

Qualifications

• Experience in and/or knowledge of the energy sector and communicating with stakeholders at varying levels.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledge of energy project development and the ‘whole energy’ system (gas/electricity networks, decarbonisation, hydrogen, transport).
• Experience with Local Authorities and/or energy distributors, ideally in the West Midlands.
• Ability to translate complex information into clear messages for reports and presentations.
• Knowledge of strategic thinking and how it influences RESP design and implementation.
• Awareness of data and systems used in energy planning.
• Strong project management, coordination and planning skills.
• Curious mindset with ability to connect ideas and learn new areas.

Responsibilities

• Support Strategic Leads and Regional Manager to represent RESP regionally and nationally.
• Engage with national and regional stakeholders to capture views and requirements for RESP.
• Assist in designing and delivering workshops with the RESP Strategic Board and working groups.
• Support implementation of RESP methodology in West Midlands and contribute to development and consultation.
• Be the subject-matter expert on West Midlands energy system interfaces with NESO and external stakeholders.
• Coordinate work packages across national/regional hub teams in a matrix structure.
• Produce clear, concise reports and slide packs for RESP progression.
• Engage stakeholders to gather input and propose changes to key assumptions.
• Develop new analytical approaches and frameworks for RESP problem solving.
