Job summary

Navantia UK is seeking a Welding Supervisor to oversee welding operations, lead the welding team, and ensure safe, on-time delivery of projects. You will enforce safety protocols, monitor quality, and collaborate with QA/QC to maintain documentation and compliance.

Candidate should have an apprenticeship or advanced welding qualification with previous supervisory experience, and a strong focus on continuous improvement within a manufacturing environment.

Job Description

PERMANENT/FULL TIME ROLE

Oversee welding operations and ensure projects are delivered on time and to specification. Lead and develop the welding team, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Health & Safety

1. Implement hot work protocols, confined space entry procedures, and manual handling safety.

2. Conduct pre-job briefs, risk assessments, and toolbox talks tailored to welding tasks.

3. Monitor welding environments for compliance and intervene when safety is at risk.

Quality

1. Ensure strict adherence to Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Inspection Test Plans (ITP), and Project Quality Plans.

2. Perform in-process checks: alignment, fit-up, bevel angles, root gaps.

3. Oversee preheat, interpass, and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) requirements.

4. Liaise with QA/QC for inspections and maintain welding documentation (e.g., welding logs, NDT reports).

5. Lead root cause analysis for weld defects and implement corrective actions.

Technical/Operations

1. Provide expertise in welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, SMAW).

2. Ensure proper use and maintenance of welding equipment and consumables.

3. Track project hours and ensure timely delivery.

4. Identify operational risks and escalate when necessary.

People Management

1. Manage team performance, absence, and development.

2. Support recruitment and onboarding of welders.

3. Deliver toolbox talks and performance reviews.

4. Handle disciplinary and grievance procedures where appropriate.

Qualifications

Apprenticeship or advanced qualification in welding or fabrication engineering. Previous supervisory experience.
