Job summary

Unipart Manufacturing in Coventry is seeking a hands-on Welding Engineer to lead development, validation and process control of joining activities for battery modules, electrification assemblies and fabrications. You will create Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), oversee weld quality testing and bridge prototype development to high-volume manufacturing.

This role requires experience with power beam, TIG and MIG welding, metallurgy understanding, and strong problem-solving; you’ll collaborate

Qualifications

• Welding Engineering background in automotive, aerospace, defence, or high-precision manufacturing.
• Hands-on joining experience with power beam, TIG/MIG welding and metallurgical understanding.
• Familiarity with weld testing frameworks, destructive/non-destructive inspection and metrology.
• Degree or HND in Materials/Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering with data-driven approach.

Responsibilities

• Weld Process Development from concept through volume production.
• Translate customer requirements into Welding Engineering Specifications and WPS.
• Implement weld quality control methods using lab equipment for integrity checks.
• Develop PFMEAs, Control Plans and DOEs for NPI and rapid problem solving.
• Ensure welding operations meet industry standards and SHE procedures.
