Job summary

ARCA Consulting Ltd. is recruiting a Welder / Fabricator to join a Cambridgeshire-based engineering business.

You will perform MIG/MAG welding and fabrication to engineering drawings and approved procedures, ensuring quality, safety and traceability for high-spec components. The ideal candidate will have strong MIG/MAG welding skills, experience interpreting drawings, and familiarity with welding standards.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in welding and fabrication within an engineering/manufacturing environment.
• Excellent ability to interpret engineering drawings and weld symbols.
• Strong knowledge of welding standards and quality requirements.
• Experience operating and maintaining welding equipment.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines while maintaining high workmanship standards.

Responsibilities

• Carry out MIG/MAG and other welding processes per approved procedures.
• Fabricate components and assemblies to drawings, weld symbols, and tolerances.
• Complete welding on structural, mechanical and fabricated components.
• Prepare, fit, tack and weld components before final welding.
• Perform grinding, dressing, cleaning and finishing operations as required.
• Work to approved drawings, specifications, weld procedures and work instructions.
• Check dimensions, alignment and weld quality during and after fabrication.
• Identify and report defects or non-conforming materials and components.
• Rework defective welds per authorised instructions.
• Ensure welds meet specified requirements before progressing to next operations.
• Collaborate with fabrication, machining, assembly, engineering and quality teams.

Welder / Fabricator / Coded Welder

ARCA Consulting is proud to be partnering with a specialist engineering business in Cambridgeshire to recruit an experienced Coded Welder / Fabricator.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled welder/fabricator to join a technically focused organisation, working on the manufacture of high-quality components and assemblies for specialist and safety-critical applications.

You will be responsible for carrying out welding and fabrication in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications and approved procedures, ensuring work meets the required standards of quality, safety, integrity and traceability.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out MIG/MAG and other specified welding processes in accordance with approved procedures.
• Fabricate components and assemblies to engineering drawings, weld symbols, specifications and required tolerances.
• Complete welding on structural, mechanical and fabricated components as required.
• Prepare, fit, tack and weld components accurately before final welding.
• Carry out grinding, dressing, cleaning and other finishing operations where required.
• Work strictly to approved drawings, specifications, weld procedures and work instructions.
• Check dimensions, alignment, weld appearance and overall workmanship during and after fabrication.
• Identify and report defects, discrepancies or non-conforming materials and components.
• Rework defective welds or assemblies only in accordance with authorised instructions.
• Ensure welds and fabricated structures meet specified requirements before progressing to subsequent operations.
• Work closely with fabrication, machining, assembly, engineering and quality personnel.
• Minimise rework, scrap and unnecessary material usage.
• Follow all applicable manufacturing, inspection and safety requirements for safety-critical products.
• Escalate any concerns regarding the integrity or suitability of a component.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe welding and fabrication environment in line with 5S principles.
• Comply with company health and safety procedures, risk assessments and hot-work requirements.

About You

You will be an experienced welder/fabricator with a strong understanding of MIG/MAG welding, fabrication techniques, engineering drawings and welding standards.

Ideally, you will bring:

• Proven experience in welding and fabrication within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
• Experience operating and maintaining welding equipment.
• Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols and technical specifications.
• Good knowledge of metals and their properties under heat.
• Experience fabricating and welding components to specified dimensions and tolerances.
• Strong understanding of quality requirements and welding standards.
• Ability to inspect your own work and identify defects or discrepancies.
• Experience working to approved welding procedures and quality standards.
• Strong awareness of health and safety requirements, particularly around hot work, fumes, gases, electrical equipment and fire risks.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of workmanship.

A current recognised welding qualification/coding, such as ISO, BS, City & Guilds, NVQ or another relevant industry standard, would be advantageous. Candidates who are not currently coded but have strong relevant experience may also be considered, with training available to achieve the required certification.
