Job summary

Proman in Wakefield is seeking an experienced coded pipe welder to join a busy engineering and fabrication environment. You will weld carbon steel pipework to coded standards, reading drawings and adhering to weld procedures.

The role covers TIG, MIG, MMA or FCAW processes, with attention to quality, safety and workmanship. This temporary contract offers ongoing work and opportunities on varied projects, with pay £18–£21 per hour DOE.

Coded Welder

Location: Wakefield Pay: £18.00-£21.00 DOE Hours: 7.30am-3pm

Contract: Temporary

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Coded Pipe Welder to join a busy engineering and fabrication environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled welder with strong experience working on carbon steel pipework, producing high-quality welds to coded standards and working confidently from engineering drawings, weld procedures and specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out coded welding on carbon steel pipework and associated fabricated components.
• Work on carbon steel pipe with wall thicknesses ranging from 5mm to 12.5mm.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols and fabrication specifications.
• Prepare, tack, weld, grind and finish materials to the required standard.
• Complete pipe welding using processes such as TIG, MIG, MMA or flux-core, depending on project requirements.
• Work to approved weld procedures, ensuring weld quality, penetration and finish meet required standards.
• Carry out pre-weld preparation, fit-up checks and post-weld cleaning where required.
• Inspect completed welds and ensure work meets quality, safety and production standards.
• Use workshop tools and equipment safely, including grinders, plasma cutters and hand tools.
• Work effectively as part of a team while also being able to work independently when required.
• Follow all site, workshop, health and safety, and quality procedures.

Requirements

• Previous experience working as a coded pipe welder within engineering, fabrication, process pipework, utilities, construction or a similar environment.
• Current or previous pipe welding coding's, such as BS EN ISO 9606-1/BS EN ISO #removed#, ASME IX or project-specific welding approvals.
• Strong practical pipe welding ability, with experience in one or more processes such as TIG, MIG, MMA or FCAW.
• Experience welding carbon steel pipe with wall thicknesses between 5mm and 12.5mm would be highly advantageous.
• Ability to work from technical drawings and follow written job instructions.
• High attention to detail and commitment to producing clean, accurate and reliable welds.
• Good understanding of workshop safety and safe working practices.
