Pertemps Bond is seeking an experienced Welder for the dayshift in Stoke-on-Trent. You will weld fabricated components from engineering drawings, ensuring quality and accuracy throughout high-volume jig work.

The role requires strong MIG welding skills on mild steel up to 12mm, DPV from drawings, and precise measurement to tolerances. There are clear progression opportunities within a long-established engineering group.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years MIG welding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Welds mild steel to 12mm thickness using MIG welding.
  • Reads and interprets engineering drawings accurately.
  • Measures components and maintains tolerances.
  • Operates hand and air tools safely and effectively.
  • Completes production paperwork accurately and keeps tidy records.
  • Maintains high standards of quality, housekeeping and safety.
  • Carries out additional duties as required by Production Team.

Job description

Welder (Dayshift)Location: Stoke-on-Trent Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8:00am to 5:00pm | Friday, 8:00am to 1:00pm

We are currently seeking an experienced Welder to join a well-established sheet metal fabrication company based in Tunstall.

The RoleThe successful candidate will be required to work on significant volumes of jig work for sustained periods while maintaining a high standard of quality and accuracy. You will be responsible for producing fabricated components in line with engineering drawings and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • MIG weld mild steel up to 12mm thickness.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings accurately.
  • Measure components and work to specified tolerances.
  • Operate hand tools and air tools safely and effectively.
  • Complete production paperwork accurately and maintain tidy records.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, housekeeping, and safety.
  • Carry out any other duties required by the Production Team.
Required Skills & ExperienceEssential
  • Minimum 5 years' MIG welding experience.
  • Fully experienced in MIG welding mild steel up to 12mm.
  • Ability to work from engineering drawings.
  • Competent in accurate measuring and working to tolerances.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and air tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
  • Reliable, hardworking, and able to work efficiently within a manufacturing environment.
Desirable
  • TIG welding experience, particularly stainless steel.
  • Experience fabricating bespoke or small-batch items from scratch.
  • Strong fabrication skills with the ability to work independently.

Weld TestAll successful applicants will be required to complete a practical weld test prior to employment. This may be carried out on the interview date or at a pre-arranged time.

Salary & Benefits
  • Competitive hourly rate of £14.00 - £15.00 per hour, dependent on experience.
  • Higher rates available for candidates with:
    • TIG welding capabilities.
    • Stainless steel welding experience.
    • Advanced fabrication skills.
    • Experience producing bespoke and complex small-batch items from engineering drawings.
  • Significant end-of-year bonuses awarded to employees.
