Job summary

Pertemps Stoke on Trent is seeking an experienced Welder (Dayshift) to join a well-established sheet metal fabrication company in Stoke-on-Trent. The role covers MIG welding of mild steel up to 12mm, reading drawings, and maintaining quality in a busy production environment.

Working Monday to Thursday 8:00am–5:00pm and Friday 8:00am–1:00pm, you will also complete production paperwork and ensure safe practices, tidy records, and accurate workmanship.

Job description

This Welder 2026 position in Burslem offers full-time temporary work with Pertemps Stoke on Trent, paying between £14.50 and £15.00 hourly. The role follows a dayshift pattern: Monday through Thursday, 8:00am until 5:00pm, plus Friday, 8:00am to 1:00pm. Duties involve MIG welding mild steel up to 12mm, reading engineering drawings, measuring parts to specified tolerances, and using hand and air tools safely. Candidates must produce fabricated components meeting customer specifications while maintaining accuracy across substantial jig work volumes. Completing production documentation correctly is also required. Applicants need proven welding experience within sheet metal fabrication, strong attention to detail, and the ability to sustain quality output over extended periods.

The Role

Required Skills & Experience

Essential

• Essential Minimum 5 years' MIG welding experience.
• Fully experienced in MIG welding mild steel up to 12mm.
• Ability to work from engineering drawings.
• Competent in accurate measuring and working to tolerances.
• Skilled in the use of hand and air tools.
• Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
• Reliable, hardworking, and able to work efficiently within a manufacturing environment.

Desirable

• Desirable TIG welding experience, particularly stainless steel.
• Experience fabricating bespoke or small-batch items from scratch.
• Strong fabrication skills with the ability to work independently.

Weld Test

All successful applicants will be required to complete a practical weld test prior to employment. This may be carried out on the interview date or at a pre-arranged time.
