Job description

Meridian Business Support is seeking a Welder experienced in MIG, TIG, and MMA for a leading global engineering company.

Working hours: Monday to Thursday, 07:45 – 16:45, and Friday, 07:45 – 12:30.

As a Welder in our Engineered Systems Manufacturing Unit (ESMU), your role involves fabrication and welding of bespoke pipework products, often involving multiple positional welds. You will work on carbon and stainless-steel pipework and pressure vessels, following detailed engineering drawings and weld procedures to deliver high-quality, customer-specific solutions.

Your responsibilities include marking out, plasma cutting, grinding, and drilling, inspecting and maintaining weld quality, and working closely with your Team Leader. The role offers autonomy to manage your workload, with an emphasis on upholding EHS standards and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Ideal candidates will have proven experience in MIG, TIG, and MMA welding, especially on pipework and pressure vessels made from carbon and stainless steel. Confidence working from engineering drawings, familiarity with fabrication techniques, and a commitment to high-quality standards in a production environment are essential. A flexible, proactive approach, strong attention to detail, and a focus on health and safety are required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform high-quality MIG, TIG, and MMA welds on carbon and stainless-steel pipework and pressure vessels, ensuring compliance with standards and specifications.
  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings and weld procedures.
  • Carry out marking out, plasma cutting, oxyacetylene cutting, grinding, and drilling.
  • Maintain welding quality through visual checks and report defects.
  • Adhere to EHS standards and promote a safe working environment.
  • Operate and set up shop floor machinery following SOPs and production plans.
  • Safely use overhead pendant cranes for material movement.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Skills and Experience:
  • Proven experience in MIG, TIG, and MMA welding.
  • Experience working with carbon and stainless-steel.
  • Ability to weld pipework and pressure vessels to high standards.
  • Confidence working from engineering drawings and weld procedures.
  • Experience with plasma cutting, grinding, and drilling.
  • Understanding of safe EHS practices.
  • Good organizational skills and self-management ability.
