Job summary

CMD Recruitment is seeking an experienced Weld Lead Operator to join a well-established manufacturing business in Devizes, Wiltshire. You will combine hands-on welding with responsibility for the day-to-day running of the department.

The role requires reading drawings, welding to specifications, supervising and training welding operators, maintaining equipment and quality, and supporting audits and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience welding in manufacturing or engineering settings.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specs.
• Skilled in welding equipment operation and operator support.
• Knowledge of welding quality and visual inspection.
• Strong communication and teamwork.
• Experience with 5S, Kaizen or Kanban is advantageous.
• Must pass welding and visual inspection assessments.

Responsibilities

• Carry out manual and semi-automatic welding to drawings.
• Support daily production, workflow and team requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and training to other welding operators.
• Visually inspect welds to required quality standards.
• Maintain welding equipment, qualifications and calibration.
• Complete production and inspection documentation and update ERP.
• Support internal, customer and NADCAP welding audits.
• Assist with non-conformance investigations and continuous improvement.
• Carry out machine and equipment checks and report faults.
• Support Production Supervisor and provide cover when required.
• Promote high standards of quality, health & safety, and housekeeping.
