Job summary

The Wallich, a Wales-based homelessness charity, is offering a part-time residential support role for young people (18–21) in Maesteg and Bridgend. You will provide shelter, guidance and practical help to promote independence, with a do-with approach to empower service users. Role requires Enhanced DBS disclosure, a driving licence with own vehicle, and a commitment to safeguarding.

22 hours per week on Saturdays and Sundays, 07:00–19:00. Closing date 19 October 2026; interview 23 October 2026.

Responsibilities

• Provide residential support that enables and empowers Service Users to address housing and/or personal difficulties and improve independence.
• Support will be carried out in a 'do with' style, possibly accompanying Service Users to activities to build familiarity, and assist with housing management to ensure a safe, secure service.

Project Description

The projects operate in Maesteg and Bridgend working with young people (18-21). The service provides residential support with the aim of meeting individuals’ needs, which promote independence and lead to a sustainable move-on.

Purpose of Role

To provide residential support that enables and empowers Service Users to address housing and/or personal difficulties, build their skills and confidence, and ultimately improve their ability to maintain their future or current accommodation. The support will not create or increase dependence. It will ‘do with’ rather than ‘do for’, so it’s likely that support will involve accompanying Service Users initially, in order to familiarise them with an activity or appointment. Support will enable people to improve their control, understanding and involvement in dealing with the issues that affect them, and assist Service Users to achieve their preferred outcomes. In addition, to assist with the housing management needs of the project ensuring the delivery of a safe, secure and effective service.

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS disclosure.
