Job summary

MTrec Technical represents a prestigious engineering client in Tyne & Wear, recruiting a permanent Multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer. Join a fast-paced, team‑driven environment with opportunities to progress.

The role offers a varied workload, a strong safety culture, and scope to contribute to large-scale maintenance projects across automated lines. You will tackle breakdowns, implement improvements, and support root-cause investigations while maintaining equipment efficiency and quality.

Qualifications

• Recognised electrical engineering qualification and four-year electrical apprenticeship.
• City & Guilds 18th Edition qualification.
• Proven experience in a manufacturing maintenance environment.
• Ability to maintain and fault find on electrical and automated systems.
• Strong methodical problem-solving approach.
• Experience working with PLCs.

Responsibilities

• Attend and resolve equipment breakdowns promptly.
• Follow and improve preventative maintenance plans to reduce unplanned downtime.
• Ensure the annual PPM schedule is adhered to and completed.
• Record and carry out planned maintenance follow up work.
• Support root cause investigations and implement permanent solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with project work requiring engineering input.
• Improve line efficiency through timely repair and maintenance of equipment.
• Improve quality and reduce spoilage through maintenance activities.

Shift Pattern:

• 12 Hour Day Shifts- Saturday and Sunday, and either Monday or Friday depending on preference.

The Job You’ll Do:

• Attend and resolve equipment breakdowns in a timely manner.
• Follow and improve preventative maintenance plans with the aim of reducing unplanned down time.
• Ensure the annual PPM schedule is adhered to and completed as required.
• Ensure that planned maintenance follow up work is recorded and carried out in a timely manner.
• Support root cause investigations for repetitive breakdowns and to implement permanent solutions.
• Be involved in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement activities.
• Assist with relevant project work where engineering involvement is required.
• Ensure line efficiency is improved through timely repair, maintenance and improvement of equipment.
• Ensure quality is improved and spoilage is reduced through timely repair, maintenance and improvement of equipment.

About You:

• Recognised electrical engineering qualification, four-year electrical apprenticeship, with a minimum of City & Guilds part 2 / NVQ level three qualifications.
• City & Guilds 18th Edition.
• Proven experience working in a manufacturing maintenance environment.
• Have the skills to maintain and fault find on electrical and automated systems.
• Strong methodical approach to problem solving.
• Experience with PLCs.
