Job summary

The London Borough of Harrow is seeking an Information Assistant (Weekend) to join its library service and help deliver a welcoming, accessible service for all users. You will greet customers, assess their information needs and provide guidance and assistance throughout their visit.

Based at a library branch with relief cover across branches, you will work weekends and contribute to a friendly, inclusive environment while maintaining strong attention to detail and good communication skills.

Qualifications

• Accurate filing alphabetically required.
• Accurate filing numerically required.
• Clear verbal communication for telephone calls.
• Weekend working as required.
• Basic awareness of library provision to a multicultural society and people with disabilities.
• Demonstrate familiarity with computer applications including Word and internet.
• Ability to deliver high quality customer care to all service users.
• Ability to handle and respond to a range of information requests.
• Ability to stand and/or walk for periods of time.
• Mobility within a building (stairs etc).
• Ability to lift (up to 10lbs/4.5 kilos).

Responsibilities

• Welcome library customers and identify individual needs.
• Provide guidance, information and assistance to ensure a high-quality service.
• Contribute to day-to-day operation and create a welcoming, inclusive environment.
• Provide relief cover at any Harrow Library Service branch as needed.
