Job summary

Sodexo is seeking a Weekend Cook for the National Probation Service Approved Premises in Carlisle City Centre. The role runs Saturdays and Sundays, 12:00–18:00, with a focus on preparing fresh, nutritious meals for residents and staff while adhering to safety standards.

Applicants should be able to work independently, handle kitchen responsibilities on weekends, and demonstrate a passion for quality meals. The position offers a competitive hourly rate and a supportive work environment with

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Cook or Chef in catering or hospitality.
• Desirable City & Guilds/ NVQ qualifications in professional cookery.
• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and serve nutritious meals to a high standard.
• Take ownership of weekend kitchen operations.
• Maintain clean, safe kitchen and comply with safety regs.
• Deliver a quality dining experience for residents and staff.
• Manage workload and basics of IT tools when needed.

Working independently, you’ll prepare fresh, nutritious meals that make a genuine difference to the wellbeing of residents and staff. What you'll do:

• Prepare, cook, and serve fresh, nutritious meals to a consistently high standard
• Take ownership of the kitchen during weekend shifts, managing food preparation with confidence
• Deliver an excellent dining experience while maintaining exceptional food quality
• Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene, and Environmental Health regulations
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment at all times

What you bring:

• Previous experience as a Cook or Chef within catering, hospitality, or food service
• Relevant culinary qualifications such as City & Guilds 706/1 & 2 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Professional Cookery (desirable)
• Good knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and health & safety practices (IOSH qualification desirable)
• A genuine passion for preparing quality meals with excellent attention to detail
• Confidence working independently and managing your own workload
• Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
