Job summary

Southern Water in Brighton is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to provide technical leadership on water and wastewater projects. You will guide the design team, prepare calculations, and ensure successful delivery in a hybrid or remote setup.

The role requires chartered status, an engineering degree, and extensive knowledge of safety standards, regulatory compliance, and commercial awareness within the water industry.

Qualifications

• MEng/BEng/BSc or HNC in Civil Engineering, Environmental, or numerate science.
• Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution.
• Extensive knowledge of design processes, safety standards and regulatory compliance.
• In-depth understanding of the commercial environment within the water industry.

Responsibilities

• Operate in health, safety, and environmental standards (CDM) compliance and risk assessments.
• Lead design guidance on water/wastewater projects and prepare technical content for contracts.
• Oversee design approvals, governance, QA processes, and manage complex design issues.
• Deliver cost-effective, low-carbon solutions and assist with budget tracking.
• Ensure design timelines are achievable and manage potential delays.
• Represent the company at industry events and contribute to technical papers.

Education

MEng/BEng/BSc or HNC in Civil Engineering, Environmental, or a numerate science-related subject

Chartered Engineer with a relevant engineering or scientific institution
