Job summary

Options Resourcing Ltd seeks a Water Treatment Technician/Engineer for a mobile role based in Reading, covering Cambridge, London and the southern region. You will deliver water hygiene and treatment services across multiple commercial sites.

With at least three years’ water treatment experience, you will carry out PPM activities, sampling, TMV testing and tank inspections, while maintaining safety and compliance with L8/HSG274 guidance. A full UK driving licence and DBS check are required.

• City & Guilds/NVQ in plumbing, heating or water treatment.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance visits across multiple client sites.
• Complete temperature monitoring, water sampling and showerhead descales.
• Inspect, clean and disinfect cold water storage tanks and cooling towers.
• Service and test thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs).
• Carry out closed-loop water testing, chemical dosing and analysis.
• Undertake steam boiler testing, water softener servicing and disinfection.
• Maintain accurate L8 logbooks, service records and job reports.
• Identify defects, interpret test results and recommend remedial action.

Water Treatment Technician / Engineer

Location: Reading-based, covering Cambridge, London and areas across the South

Salary: £37,000 per annum

The Role We are recruiting an experienced Water Treatment Technician / Engineer for a mobile position covering a wide geographical area, based from Reading and travelling to commercial client sites across Cambridge, London and the surrounding southern regions. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced water treatment professional with a strong background in water hygiene, Legionella control, planned preventative maintenance and remedial works. You will be responsible for delivering water hygiene and treatment services across multiple sites, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with relevant regulations and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) visits across multiple client sites.
• Complete temperature monitoring, water sampling and showerhead descales.
• Inspect, clean and disinfect cold water storage tanks and cooling towers.
• Service and test thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs).
• Carry out closed-loop water testing, chemical dosing and analysis.
• Undertake steam boiler testing, water softener servicing and disinfection.
• Complete plumbing remedial works, including deadleg removal, TMV replacements, pipework modifications and expansion vessel installations.
• Maintain accurate L8 logbooks, service records and job reports.
• Identify defects, interpret test results and recommend appropriate remedial action.
• Liaise professionally with clients and internal technical teams.
• Ensure all work complies with Health and Safety procedures, risk assessments and method statements.

Essential Requirements

• Minimum of three years' experience in water hygiene and water treatment.
• Strong knowledge of Legionella control, ACOP L8 and HSG274 guidance.
• Practical experience in water hygiene PPM and remedial works.
• Experience with water sampling, temperature monitoring, TMVs and tank inspections.
• Knowledge of closed-loop systems and chemical dosing.
• Relevant City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent qualification in plumbing, heating or water treatment.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across the region.
• Must be able to pass a DBS check.
• Good communication, organisational and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a mobile workload.

Desirable Experience

• TMV servicing and testing qualifications.
• Water system cleaning and disinfection training.
• Closed-loop water treatment and chemistry training.
• Cooling tower water testing and treatment.
• Steam boiler water treatment and testing.
