Job Description

We are looking for experienced mine water professionals to join our busy Mine Water Group and support an expanding pipeline of work in the mining sector. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join SLR’s expanding multidisciplinary team, which includes mining engineers, geologists, tailings engineers, geotechnical engineers, ESG practitioners, hydrologists, hydrogeologists, and geochemists.

We are interested in hearing from water specialists in hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, water resources, and engineering with experience on local and international mining projects. The role can be based in any of our European offices: Dublin, Edinburgh, Bristol, Nottingham, or London.

The role

You will:

  • Provide specialist input to local and international mining studies, including Environmental & Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), Pre-Feasibility & Feasibility Studies (PFS/FS), Due Diligence Assessments, and Closure Planning.
  • Collaborate with other water specialists and a diverse mining team including engineers, geotechnical specialists, geologists, climate scientists, and ESG practitioners.
  • Be involved in all aspects of project delivery, including proposal writing, risk management, project setup, progress tracking, and ensuring high-quality deliverables to strengthen client relationships.
  • Mentor and support workload distribution within the team and across disciplines.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and development of the team, creating new opportunities and enhancing capabilities.
  • Stay updated on technical innovations and ensure advice complies with best practices, legislation, and guidance relevant to water management in mining.

Travel across the UK, Europe, and internationally may be required for project work, site visits, and field campaigns, working with colleagues across various regions.

About you

You will have:

  • Relevant academic qualifications and be working towards or already registered as a Chartered specialist through a recognized UK/EU or equivalent organization.
  • Experience contributing to technical studies across the mine lifecycle, from environmental impact assessments to closure.
  • Strong technical, numerical, and modelling skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience in reporting, graphics/drawings, and presentations.

Your knowledge should include:

  • Climate characterization, rainfall estimation, flood hydrology, water balance modelling, water infrastructure planning, dam break assessment, and technical reporting.

Additional advantageous knowledge includes field hydrology, water quality monitoring, probabilistic modelling, hydraulic modelling, data science, GIS/CAD skills, and cost estimation.

A valid UK driving license is required.
