Job summary

Northumbrian Water is seeking a proactive Local Planning Liaison Officer to support sustainable growth while protecting water assets. You will review planning applications, engage with local authorities and developers, and provide expert planning advice to ensure developments align with our operational requirements.

The role requires strong communication, stakeholder management, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Town Planning or related discipline preferred.
  • Solid understanding of planning law, policy and practice.
  • Experience with stakeholder management and development-related challenges.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • RTPI membership advantageous.
  • Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review planning applications and local plans.
  • Provide clear, accurate, timely responses aligned with policies and requirements.
  • Evaluate potential impact of proposed developments on water resource areas.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local authorities, developers and consultants.
  • Advise on water-related requirements and practical solutions to support development while safeguarding assets and services.
