Job summary

Severn Trent Water is hiring a Distribution Operative to manage the operation and maintenance of our Underground Water network and Clean Water assets. You will conduct excavations on public highways and private lands, respond to customer issues and coordinate with other teams and partners to ensure service delivery.

The role involves working outdoors in all weather, with a rolling 7‑week shift pattern (24/7, 365).

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence required to travel to depots/bases.
• Role is physically demanding requiring good strength and stamina.
• Ability to apply rational thinking and technical know-how to resolve problems.
• Excellent communication skills to explain technical messages clearly.
• Positive attitude with strong customer focus and service mindset.
• Strong duty of care, safety, responsibility and collaboration are essential.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain Severn Trent's Underground Water network.
• Maintain Clean Water Network and repair main assets as needed.
• Conduct excavation work within public highways and private lands.
• Respond to customer issues and liaise with departments and partners.
• Repair and replace water mains and ancillary assets; work on valves and meters.
• Operate machinery on site and support data upkeep for back-office systems.
