Job summary

Pertemps Newcastle is recruiting a Wastewater Production Operator for a temporary, full-time role in Washington. You will help run and maintain wastewater treatment works safely, protecting the environment and supporting essential water services across the region.

You will operate assets, optimise chemicals and energy, perform basic effluent analysis, interpret results and adjust processes. A UK driving licence is required for travel between sites, and a strong commitment to health, safety and

Qualifications

• Valid UK driving licence for travel between sites.
• Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
• Experience or understanding of operating and maintaining process plant or industrial assets.
• Ability to interpret operational data and respond appropriately.
• Confidence using control systems and basic IT applications.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain works assets in accordance with regulatory requirements and company standards to ensure ongoing compliance.
• Optimise the use of plant assets, including chemicals, energy, and other resources, to achieve efficient operation.
• Carry out basic effluent and mixed liquor analysis, interpret results, and implement operational changes as required.
• Effectively use and interrogate the SCADA system to fault-find, monitor performance, and optimise plant utilisation.
• Perform basic instrument calibration in line with procedures.
• Undertake basic fault finding on plant and equipment and escal..
• Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by line management in line with operational requirements.

Working Monday to Friday, 8am until 4pm, the successful candidate joins Northumbrian Water's frontline team, ensuring safe, efficient running of treatment works while protecting the environment and sustaining essential services. Duties include operating and maintaining assets to meet regulatory and company standards, optimising plant resources such as chemicals and energy, and performing basic effluent and mixed liquor analysis. Results must be interpreted, with appropriate adjustments made to processes. Applicants need practical plant experience, strong analytical ability, solid teamwork, and a commitment to compliance within a safety-critical setting.
